WORKSHOP 1st SESSION

Belgian Association of Dermato-Oncology : Artificial Intelligence (AI) for skin cancer detection
  • This workshop covers the role of AI for skin cancer detection in different real-world context situations. For direct use by the consumer, various smart phone apps are developed for self- evaluation of skin lesions. General practitioners can use AI in primary setting to effectively triage skin lesions to secondary care. For dermatologists AI can assist in detecting changes in total body photography over time or monitor evolution in a single lesion. In addition, AI can also support the dermatologist at a single moment in time to support clinical decision making for a specific lesion. The opportunities and challenges of AI in skin cancer detection are further discussed.
  • Prof. Lieve Brochez (UZ Gent)
  • Prof. Marjan Garmyn (KUL)
15h00-16h00
Studio 211 + 212
Belgian Club of Dermatopathology : Challenging clinicopathologic cases
  • A potpourri of recent challenging, unusual and puzzling cases from daily practice will be discussed in an interactive manner. These didactic case studies can only be clarified through thorough clinicopathologic interaction between the dermatologist and the pathologist.

  • Dr. Sven Lanssens (Dermatologie Maldegem))

Amber Shen

After completing my Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and my Master's in Health Promotion at Ghent University in 2020, I joined the research team of Prof. Dr. Brochez at Ghent University Hospital. My work focuses on the early detection of skin cancer, specifically exploring how nurses can significantly contribute to this field. I was actively involved in the development and implementation of nurse-performed "One-Spot-Check" consultations, which have become standard practice at the Dermatology Department of Ghent University Hospital. Currently, I am involved in the ongoing evaluation of this initiative and its further testing in different clinical settings, aiming to increase dermatology service capacity and improve patient access to skin cancer care
